Joint workshop of EuroISME and ZInFü/D-A-CH on European Code of Conduct

From 11 to 14 June 2017, a symposium concerning military ethics was held at the Leadership Training Centre of the Federal Armed Forces in Koblenz. Experts from different countries exchanged views on topical issues and continued to work on the Euro-ISME initiative aiming at the development of a “Code of Conduct" / Ethical Compass for European soldiers.

7th Annual Euro-ISME Conference 2017 Brussels – Conference Report

The 7th Annual Euro-ISME Conference took part from 30th of May to 2nd of June 2017 at the Royal Belgian Military Academy in Brussels. Almost 100 ISME-members and representatives from different professional communities discussed ethical issues and questions like "‘Should the technical rules of ius in bello and principles of ius post bellum be reinforced through conduct based on human virtues and values, such as altruism, magnanimity and forgiveness, in order to make a lasting peace possible?" First EuroISME’s prize for the best student’s thesis awarded

On May 31 2017 in Brussels, EuroISME’s prize for the best student thesis written on military ethics, has been awarded to Ms. Samantha Hope of the UK. The title of her thesis : Is it possible to prevent sexual violence against women, men and children, or only to manage the after-effects?

European Award for Citizenship, Security and Defence 2016

In 2016 again, the International Society for Military Ethics in Europe (Euro-ISME) was the princial partner of the association “Civisme Défense Armées Nation” (CiDAN) for organising the European Award for Citizenship, Security and Defence. On 28 November 2016, the solemn Award Ceremony took place in the Embassy of the French Republic in Berlin. For the first time, the traditional pre-event reception of the partner country of the Berlin Security Conference" provided an unforgettable setting for the delivery of the trophies to the laureates.

With the new edition of it's biannual E-Journal the "Centre for Ethical Education in the Armed Forces", which is one of our Institutional Members, initiates a debate on the very sensitive topic which affects not only the future profile of the German armed forces and Germany's security culture, but also directly concerns European Military Ethics in general. Euro-ISME wants to contribute to the discourse! This is why we regularly make the release of a new edition of the Zebis E-Journal a "Topic of the Month".
